About Visakhapatnam Port Trust
Visakhapatnam was an antiquated Port city which had profession relations with the Middle East and Rome. Boats were secured at open streets and were stacked with freight transported from Visakhapatnam shore by method for little Masula water crafts. A reference to Vizagapatam dealer is accessible in the engravings of Sri Bheemeswara Swamy sanctuary (1068 AD), East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh.
Foremost items exchanged at harbor Port included Muslin fabric – produced at Uppada (East Godavari District), Manganese mineral – fares to UK and USA, Oilseeds, jaggery, jute and indigo, covers up and skins. Broad exchange relations existed with Burma. Vessels of British India Steam Navigation Company routinely went to the Port.
With the appearance of British Rule, in 1858, the requirement for a port in this part of the nation was stressed in a report of a British Survey Party. Later in 1877 a report called Vizag the Port of Central Provinces further underlined the requirement for development of a Port at Visakhapatnam. It was strictly when the I World War (1914-18) that the proposition of Col.H.Cartwright Reid of British Admiralty for development of a harbor at Visakhapatnam at the mouth of waterway Meghadrigedda was endorsed by the Government.
The current area bolted Inner Harbor was worked by Bengal Nagpur Railway somewhere around 1927 and 1933 to give ocean outlet to Manganese mineral of the Central Provinces(Madhya Pradesh).
